Cenas dos Próximos Capítulos

Rui Fernandes PodcastingThe WAC Podcast

summary

Episode 22, "Cenas dos Próximos Capítulos" (Scenes from the Next Chapters), operates as a palate cleanser in the WAC podcast lineup—a brief, energizing interlude from Rui that functions partly as preview, partly as contemplation. At just over two thousand words, it's the shortest episode in this batch, yet it carries surprising weight.

The title suggests forward movement, a looking ahead to what's coming. In the context of the podcast's journey and Rui's own trajectory, this becomes an invitation to consider momentum and narrative. What are the next chapters? What's being set in motion? The episode resists providing easy answers, instead creating space for listeners to think about their own next chapters.

What makes this episode distinctive is its brevity and its structural function within the larger podcast arc. It serves as a moment of pause, a transition point. Rui seems to be both reflecting on progress made and orienting toward what's ahead. There's an economy of language here—every word matters because there aren't many of them.

The episode's power lies partly in what it suggests rather than what it explicitly states. It's an opportunity to consider the difference between the story you're currently living and the story you're moving toward. For listeners building something—whether that's a business, a creative practice, a relationship, or a life—this episode offers a moment to ask: what comes next? And more importantly, who decides what the next chapter looks like?

In the context of the wedding industry specifically, the metaphor of "next chapters" takes on particular resonance. People come to wedding professionals during pivotal moments—they're literally about to begin new chapters in their own lives. The professionals who serve them are also continuously moving through chapters of their own. Some are early in their creative journey, learning fundamentals and building their foundation. Others are in the growth and expansion phase, refining their voice and taking on bigger work. Still others are contemplating the next evolution—perhaps specializing, perhaps diversifying, perhaps reorienting entirely.

Rui's brief exploration invites reflection on the narrative arc of a creative career. It's easy to get caught in the daily work, the immediate next client, the pressing deadline. This episode creates permission to step back and ask about the broader story. What's the narrative you're authoring through your work and your choices? What scene are you currently in, and what does the next one look like from here?

The economy of this episode—its shortness, its focus, its contemplative tone—suggests that sometimes the most powerful podcast moments aren't the most elaborate ones. Sometimes a brief, sincere reflection from someone you've come to know through previous conversations carries more weight than hours of exposition. It's an episode that respects your intelligence enough to trust you'll fill in the space with your own thinking.

For the broader WAC podcast audience, this episode functions as a moment of intentional pause within the larger conversation about building authentically in the wedding industry. It's less about specific skills or strategies and more about inner orientation. Before the next chapter unfolds, who do you want to be in it? What values do you want to embody? How are you preparing not just professionally but as a person?

Hi, welcome. I'm Rui and this is the Doeck Podcast. Welcome to the Doeck Podcast. Today's episode will be kind of freestyle. I prepared some ideas that I wanted to share with you, but basically I'm the one saying the words against the microphone. I don't have guests, so it's just a little monologue that will be useful to talk a little bit about the future. August was a special month. I feel like I talked a lot and it was a lot about me. I think I went a little crazy and I repeated myself a lot. Maybe it's because of the age, I'm not going back to when I was young. But in part I think it made sense. For those who don't know me personally or for those who don't know me at all, I think it makes some sense or made some sense to put a little bit out there what I think about this, about what the Doeck can be and other issues. But now let's go back to normal, stop messing with the protagonist and we'll go back to the interesting people, which is what this is for. And right now I want to look ahead and do good things. Since the beginning of the project I wanted the Doeck to be more than a podcast. Hence the name I gave it, Wedding Artists Community. I knew and I know that there is a need for space that unites us and where we can all share our pain and share our learnings. I wanted this to be a place without judgment, without egos, and with a lot of solidarity and support. I knew there was this need, but it wasn't right. I didn't know I would be able to gather the right people. And I didn't know, I wasn't sure, of course, if the interest would be there. And the podcast served for that. To start these conversations and get the ball rolling. And fortunately this goal was realized in a way I wasn't expecting, honestly. And to everyone who accepted the invitation to talk to me and to everyone who listened to us, my most sincere and deepest thanks. I've said this many times, but I don't think it's too much. Gratitude is one of those good feelings, one of those good emotions that must be repeated. And the truth is that I am very grateful for everyone who accepted this instant invitation and to everyone who listened. It has been very special for me. So thank you all very much. And the truth is that I started early to think about what the future would be. I felt the need, but I didn't know exactly how it would be realized. What place would that be? And in the meantime, it came to light. It came to me, in a way, a simple definition that can be... I think it's the one I needed, which is... DAWECK will be a platform for support and mentorship. And this simply means what I said a little above, which is a space where we will share our pains, our difficulties, our challenges. And where, on the other hand, there will be people who can help us, who may have already gone through the same difficulties, may have already solved them, may be solving them. But regardless of the situation, we will find people willing to help us in some way so that we don't have to go through things alone. And even in more concrete and more direct professional issues, and perhaps even simpler, it will also be useful for that. Let's help each other. It will be a meeting point between those who want to learn and those who are open to teach, if they can gather. And the subjects will be, as they have been so far, as diverse as possible, from cake design techniques, photography, floral design, to the search for a balance between personal and professional life, to business management or the preservation of our mental health. We will talk about everything that is relevant, so that we have a complete and realized life, which I think is what I want, and I imagine that in one way or another we all want some form of that. And now, how am I going to put all this into practice? Here is a great question to which I have no answer. So, I believe, and I've been learning in the last five months, that the path is made by walking. So I'm going to take a little step at a time, and soon, if we walk together, we'll get there. I have some more concrete ideas, but I'm not particularly focused on the result, I'm more focused on the path and the process, and I think that, with time, things will happen as they should happen, and I'm not too focused on looking too far ahead. But I have some ideas, naturally, being me, I have some ideas. But before that, I want to make an important disclaimer. Community doesn't mean everyone. Community is simply what unites us, what we have in common. But for me, specifically, it means those who see the world with a common goal. And in this specific case, in this specific project, this project and this platform will serve those who feel, like me, that we all grow more with sharing and transparency. Personally, I don't look at the remaining photographers as competitors, nor do I share the idea that the secret is the soul of the business, of everything. I strongly believe, instead, that sharing is the secret to growth. But not everyone thinks like me, and it's all right. This is not a place, as I was saying, it's not a place for everyone, it's a place for those who want to be here, for those who want to share, and those who feel that together we grow and together we go further. Then we will move on to the ideas that I have more concrete for the future. I'm not going to take too long because this, by podcast, in a monologue way, can become extremely weird and difficult to understand or simply difficult for me to pass the idea correctly, so I'm just going to give you two or three ideas of what the future could be. Regarding the podcast, the intention is still to record in person and, in the possible future, add the video. I've already talked about this, I love the idea, it's really one of my main goals, but the logistics are complex, so it will happen when it's possible, but that's clearly a goal. And also, sooner or later, a WhatsApp group will be created for the podcast supporters, we can talk, we can have suggestions of guests, topics, questions, etc. But well, outside the scope of the podcast, there will be a newsletter. And this will be the main form of communication with the community. Through it, I will share everything that will happen, at the same time that I will have small articles and some content that seems interesting to me at every moment. So I will make the newsletter and the contacts of those who subscribe, I will make it the main means of communication. So, if you want to subscribe to keep up to date, you will need a subscription form at dawak.pt. After this, on the digital side, I will separate this in two ways, on the digital side, that is, content that will happen on a platform, on the website, something like that, and then on the face-to-face questions. On the digital side, in addition to the newsletter, we will have a WhatsApp group for members, so we can be closer and talk about the topics that make sense. This WhatsApp group for members will not be an organized thing, it will be a spontaneous thing at the moment. It is not supposed to be a very structured thing. But we also have other support tools, management, marketing, finance, etc., as well as small courses, webinars, on specific topics from the various areas that we have here at DAWAK. In short, this digital part, a newsletter that will be the main means of communication and notification of new things that may be happening, and then a platform on the website that we will have videos, webinars, small courses, PDF tools. These things that will arise, they are still in the very early stages of creation, but over time they will arise and will be there. This is the digital part. The face-to-face part, the one with the most enthusiasm, and I think the most... I don't think so. I'm sure more people have asked for it, and that's why I believe it's also a common enthusiasm, is the issue of meetings, the moments when we will meet in person. And for this, I have here a 2025, quite interesting in my point of view, and difficult, but exciting, because I want to do 10 small events throughout the year. I don't have all the details aligned, but I can say that the goal is to be spread throughout the country, and forget the division Lisbon-Porto, because Portugal is much more than that, and I really want these small events to happen in all the cities that make sense. There it is. I don't want to have megalomaniacal thoughts, but I really want to bring this community, these small meetings, everywhere that makes sense. And it also has as a purpose that they happen every Tuesday, every first Tuesday of each month, with the exception of August and December, because from there they are a bit peculiar months, and I think that in principle these will not happen. And in these events we will always have special guests, and we will talk about a specific topic. They will not be big events, they are small things, probably two or three hours, and I also say small because they will be, at most, I think, for about 30 people. The goal is to be able to be together for two or three hours, to have a part where we talk about two or three topics, specifically with the guests we have, but then there is space to talk, to do networking, or simply to talk to each other, accompanied by a bellbranch, obviously. And on top of this, as if it were not work, I want to organize a big event. I can not imagine a gigantic thing, but bigger, that will last maybe one or two days, but this is still more in the part of dreams than in the part of concrete goals. It will be. I need a lot of help, I do not have experience to do this alone, I do not have time, I do not have the ability to do this alone at this stage, so it's something I want to make happen, but it will be in due time. It will happen when it has to happen, because I also want it to be special. It's not just another conference, it's not just anything else, it has to be something special. So, at this stage, it's still a lot in the part of the dream. So, in a nutshell, these are my plans. Get together at small events, where we can meet people, do it throughout that country, continent and islands, and create tools that serve to communicate, in this case the newsletter, and other situations, and other forms, and other tools and documents, everything that can enrich our life, our profession and our common work. But, I'm open to suggestions, so do not hesitate to send me a message, or an email, or anything, with a suggestion, because this has been a lot on my mind, and I don't want it to be. I want to do this, I don't want to do this alone, I want to do this together, so share everything you have, give feedback that you have to give. I'm always open. I'm always open to receive. As I said earlier, this platform, this project, will be for all those who can see value in this sharing and this path. And for all of you who decide to accompany me on this journey, I leave you this little promise. My soul is deposited in each of these moments, so that it is a special and exciting journey. And with this, I finish this monologue. In the next episode we return to normal programming, with another wonderful guest. I hope, as so far, to have you on that side, and that this can be, and continue to be, interesting for you. Kisses, hugs and see you next week.
